NZD/USD selling-off on NZ quake reports

FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - The kiwi is selling off on quake reports. According to New Zealand Herald, "a strong earthquake has been felt in central New Zealand. GNS has a preliminary reading of mag 6.6, 17km deep, 5km east of Seddon." The NZD/USD has retreated off highs at 0.8110 to now trade at 0.8070 as investors assess the possible economic damage.

NZD/JPY balanced around 78.80

The NZD/JPY foreign exchange cross rate is last quoted at 78.79 bids, near yesterday's quotes at same point of the Asian session, balanced on similar Yen and Kiwi strength following a volatile day overall.

USD/SGD unable to hold above 1.2700

The USD/SGD foreign exchange rate is last trading at 1.2685 bids, slightly lower than yesterday's Asian open price, although still up for the week thus far, despite massive retrace from early NY fresh 2-week highs at 1.2757 following better than expected US jobless claims.
