US stocks swing from moderate losses to marginal gains

FXStreet (Mumbai) - The sentiment on the Wall street is shifting rapidly as stocks opened moderately lower and quickly recovered to trade marginally positive.

At the time of writing, the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index was up less than 0.1 % to 1,942.15 after falling 1.4% yesterday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 6 points to 16,259.73. The Nasdaq Composite Index advanced 0.2%.

The movement in the stocks is largely directionless as investors await the Fed’s looming decision on whether to raise rates this month. The FOMC rate decision is due on September 17th. At the moment, the fed funds futures indicate only 28% probability of a rate hike happening next week.

The data released earlier today added to the evidence of the labor market strength. The initial jobless claims were reported at 275,000 for the week ended Sept. 5; down 6K from the previous week.
