EU’s Weber: Catalonia referendum was not valid

European Commission First Vice-President Frans Timmermans recently crossed the wires saying that upholding the rule of law 'sometimes requires a proportionate use of force' and further added that the EU was calling for dialogues in Spain, as reported by LiveSquawk. Moreover, Manfred Weber, leader of the Christian Democrats in the EU assembly, said that the referendum in Catalonia was not valid and whoever left Spain would be leaving the EU.
